KILLEEN, Texas — For Staff Sgt. Jacob Eagly, 664th Modular Ammunition Company, 61st Quartermaster Battalion, 13th Armored Corps Sustainment Command, March 5 started out as just another day, until he encountered a driver with a blowout just outside the Fort Cavazos main gate.

The mother, with her infant son in tow, didn’t know how to change a tire and had waited for nearly an hour in uncomfortable conditions with no one offering to help. Eagly approached her, and as soon as he saw the distressed mother and crying baby, he retrieved his tools from his vehicle and changed the tire for her as cars passed by.

Eagly’s selfless efforts garnered positive feedback provided through the Interactive Customer Evaluation system and recognition by the Customer Service Incentivized Awards and Recognition Program.

The program uses positive feedback from the Fort Cavazos community to recognize extraordinary customer service and reward Soldiers’ and civilians’ efforts.

In an impromptu ceremony in front of his peers at the motor pool where he works, Eagly was commended by Col. Lakicia Stokes, U.S. Army Garrison-Fort Cavazos commander, and Command Sgt. Major Calvin Hall, U.S. Army Garrison-Fort Cavazos command sergeant major, and presented with a certificate, a swag bag and a garrison coin.

Dale Cowan, management analyst for Plans, Analysis and Integration Office, read a citation that stated in part, “Your exceptional professionalism is in keeping with our promise to provide first class customer service to the Soldiers and family members on Fort Cavazos.”

“It just goes to show you that something so small that I thought, actually turned out to be pretty big,” Eagly expressed. “All eyes are always on you every time that you’re out there in the civilian world. So, just continue to do great things like I know all of you do and I greatly appreciate it.”

Tyson Daniel, Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security, was also honored by the garrison team at his workplace as his peers looked on, having received praise from a customer.

“He creates excellent maps that enable units to efficiently plan for and execute their missions,” the customer said of Daniel’s work. “Mr. Tyson is comwpetent and user-friendly, making it easy for anyone to ask for his assistance.”

Daniel expressed surprise at the recognition.

“I’ve tried to provide support to Soldiers and units like I would have wanted to be supported, so to be recognized for it makes me feel like I must be doing something right,” he said.

He added that he sees it as a team accomplishment more than an individual achievement.

“I don’t think enough people take the time to recognize those on the installation that are doing great things every day,” Daniel said.

    Cowan agreed.

“Recognition is not just about the individual; it’s about the organization. It brings up morale and esprit de corps in the unit. So, when people see that individuals are being recognized, it motivates them to want to do bigger and better things.”

Daniel was also commended by Stokes and Hall and presented with a certificate and swag bag.

“It shows that we appreciate the dedication that they put in their job and their performance. But it also lets everyone else know that these are things that they can do too,” Hall said. “So, it builds comradery and teamwork and inspires others to achieve excellence.”
