MCB Camp Blaz was recognized by the U.S. Department of Defense for recently publishing a new Environmental Policy statement for the base, directing environmental compliance, preventing pollution, and improving a thriving environmental management system. That’s not the only effort the base has contributed.
“This is the first time a 100% Guam-based team with local roots has won a Secretary of Defense-level award.” said Mr. Al Borja, the installation environmental program director of MCB Camp Blaz and local from Dededo, Guam. “The environmental quality team includes Omar Damian, Tee Mendiola, Rick Salas, Cherry Hoya, Claire Baradi and German Nuestro. I am proud to call all of them teammates.”
The environmental team over time with each project developed strong partnerships with Guam EPA and the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) springing forth multiple projects such as the spill prevention and hazardous waste management plans, developing the MCB Camp Blaz commanding officer’s Environmental Policy Statement, and being involved with the largest forest enhancement project on Guam, spanning 1,000 acres in total to preserve and protect wildlife.

This prestigious award not only recognizes your team’s outstanding contributions but also showcases the significant impact your actions have on our installation as well as the quality of life for our Marines, Sailors, Civilian employees, and their families. Your dedication to environmental excellence serves as an inspiration for us all, and I have no doubt that your continued efforts will yield even greater successes in the future.”
Even having the honor to receive this award, this is not farewell to taking care of the island. This is only a milestone of the ongoing progression of MCB Camp Blaz
