Machinist Mate Senior Chief Casey Williams has been recognized as Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center's (MARMC) Sailor in the Spotlight for April. With an impressive 18-month tenure in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Compressed Air, Electronic Cooling, and Sonar Dome pressurization systems Branch (Code 252), Williams has consistently demonstrated exceptional attention to detail in his role of fixing ships.

"My main job is as a Fleet Technical Assistant for air systems," Williams explained. "I specialize in oxygen and nitrogen production. I also do a lot of quality assurance to assist the Project Support Engineers for the ships. When they have work items that they have questions about, I do the research for them."

Code 252 Branch Head, William Foronda, commended Williams' contributions, stating, "MMCS embodies what it means to be selfless and is not afraid to jump into something new or take on a challenge to help others. His expertise in O2N2 [Oxygen Nitrogen] systems is unmatched and this sets MARMC apart from other RMC's. Typically, O2N2 is only supported by ISEA [In-Service Engineering Agent]. However, because Williams attends O2N2 workshops and shows that MARMC has the expertise to cover the system, the ISEA is shifting work to MARMC, and aircraft carriers are now receiving more on-time support in this high-cost system."

Beyond his primary duties, Williams has played a significant role in mentoring Sailors during Chief Season 2023, helping them to become better versions of themselves both mentally and physically. He has also made valuable contributions to the Culture Communities of Practice (CoP) and served as the Suicide Prevention Coordinator, organizing guest speakers at offsite events to improve employee morale.

Foronda commended Williams for his significant positive impact on the workforce, highlighting, "His unmatched positive attitude and dedication to duties contribute to the morale of the MARMC workforce. Observing interactions between Williams and Code 252 SMEs [Subject Matter Experts], I've noticed several constructive conversations filled with laughter, resulting in increased team morale. His resourcefulness and great communication skills has helped Code 252 in fixing ships. This is observed by his impressive ability to know MARMC Chiefs by first name, and being able to discuss issues. This leads to a new, positive working relationship for Code 252 to help fix ships together as a command."

A Palmer, Texas native, Williams has been married to his wife, Krista, for 18 years and has a seven-year-old son named Jackson. To maintain his physical well-being, Williams engages in powerlifting and running, while also reading medical studies to further his health and fitness journey.

As Williams approaches retirement, he remains committed to teaching others about the importance of mental and physical health, and maintaining a positive outlook.

When asked if he could give any advice to junior Sailors, Williams said, “My biggest thing is to concentrate on personal growth. Understand what your purpose is. Find a faith background that you believe in. Work on physical, mental, and financial fitness, and everything else falls into place. If you grow as a person, you normally will grow as a leader, and you’ll inspire others to do the same.”

Williams' dedication to his craft, unwavering support for his colleagues, and commitment to personal growth serve as an inspiring example for all those who work alongside him at MARMC. His contributions, both professionally and personally, have undoubtedly left a lasting impact.

MARMC, a field activity under Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), provides surface ship maintenance, management and oversight of private sector maintenance and fleet technical assistance to ships in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
