The Naval Medical Center San Diego Pediatrics team celebrated Month of the Military Child by coming together, April 18, 2024.

The U.S. Department of Defense celebrates Month of the Military Child each year in April to honor and recognize the unique challenges and experiences that more than 1.6 million military children face as a result of their parents’ service.

As part of the celebration, the team wore purple clothing. The color purple represents a blending of colors from all service branches into one. U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy with various shades of blue, U.S. Army green and U.S. Marine Corps red.

“In the Pediatric Department, we are fortunate to serve our military families and we understand that some of the littlest among us make the biggest sacrifices in service to our country,” said Cmdr. Katherine Swartz, NMCSD’s Pediatrics department head. “Throughout the month of April we celebrate some of our military's most unsung heroes - our children.”

NMCSD’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation team is also celebrating MOMC by hosting a Junior Warrior Challenge April 27, 2024 from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. at the Athletic Complex Softball Field on the NMCSD campus. This event is free and will include obstacle courses for ages 8-12 and ages 13-17. For more information or to sign up for this event, visit navylifesw.com.

NMCSD continuously seeks professional civilian talent, not just limited to health care providers and administrative support. For anyone seeking a federal job, visit USAJobs at usajobs.gov - the Federal Government's official employment site.

The mission of NMCSD is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality health care services, and shape the future of military medicine through education, training, and research. NMCSD employs more than 5,000 active-duty military personnel, civilians and contractors in southern California to provide patients with world-class care. Anchored in Excellence, Committed to Health!
