Apache Troop hosts Japanese Self-Defense Force for weapons training
Troopers, assigned to Apache Troop, 2nd Squadron, 104th Cavalry Regiment, 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Task Force Paxton, Pennsylvania National Guard, trained with Soldiers from the Japanese Defense Force on basic weapon systems Mar. 30, 2024, Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti.
Members of the Japanese Self Defense Force, Anti-Piracy Unit conducted a round robin training with Task Force Paxton’s Quick Reaction Force to learn the basics of American weapon systems including the .5-caliber machine gun, Mark 19 grenade launcher, and 240B machine gun.
Joint trainings between U.S. forces and foreign allies foster trust between participating units by promoting mutual understanding and cooperation.
“I am fortunate to have had the privilege of collaborating with the Japanese military during this joint training exercise,” said Sgt. Nicholas Lee a cavalry scout with Apache. “I had the opportunity to introduce them to the weapon systems utilized by our quick reaction force.”
Small joint training opportunities allow U.S. service members to foster close relationships with our foreign allies and help breakdown culture barriers.
“It is interesting and always a lot of fun to train with allies from foreign places, it helps you learn and think about training in a different way,” said Staff Sgt. William Krzan a squad leader from Apache.
