Story by 1st Lt. Tiana Jackson

    III MEF Information Group

In the dynamic theater of warfare, understanding the intricate movements and intentions of potential threats has remained a linchpin of strategic planning. However, as the battlefield evolves and expands, so do methods of exploration.

Today, an adversary’s presence can be sensed across multiple domains, transcending geographical and technological limitations. At the core of this transformation lies the concept of the kill web—a dynamic network that seamlessly integrates intelligence and warfare capabilities across various domains, including land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace.

The U.S. Marine Corps' Concept for Stand-in Forces emphasizes that "kill webs allow for the rapid identification and selection of assets for tasking and re-tasking within and across military boundaries from disaggregated or distributed forces."

This holistic approach to combat operations enables the joint force to effectively anticipate and respond to emerging threats. Sensing, in the kill web, provides power and forms a basis for a comprehensive understanding of the battlefield environment.

Sensing identifies the foundational data necessary to detect and mitigate potential threats. The U.S. Marines of 3rd Radio Battalion (RADBN), III Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group, actively contribute, equipped with specialized signals intelligence and electronic warfare teams. These teams diligently rehearse resilient and reliable solutions to contribute sensing capabilities to the kill web, operating seamlessly in austere or communication-degraded environments.

Exercise Corvus Dawn 24, will continue to refine 3rd RADBN’s ability to provide these technical information-related capabilities to III MEF and the joint and multi-national force throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Through ongoing training and collaboration, we remain resolute in our commitment to unveil the hidden.
