FARAH, Afghanistan — Farah Provincial Gov. Rahool Amin and Over 100 local women attended the ceremony that not only commemorated the new facility, but also honored the women of Farah for their past and future contributions to the city.

"I wish we could have days like this over and over again," said Amin. "All the women of this city and of this province do so much for our society we should honor them as often as we can. These women perform so many roles and are so multitalented that it is hard to describe all the attributes of society they enhance - this building stands as a testament to all their hard work."

The dedication ceremony took place just two days after Farah's official Women's Day Celebration at Amin's compound, where over 600 women participated in the day's events designed to honor and celebrate Afghan women.

The new computers at the Women's Center were sponsored by the Farah PRT and the U.S. State Department and will enable the women there to learn new skills vital to their participation in a modern society.

"My congratulations go out to all of you for your quiet strength and determination," said U.S. Navy Cmdr. Jim Mann, the incoming PRT Commander, to the large female crowd at the Women's Center. "Your provincial government and the PRT both have a history of supporting the empowerment of women, their hopes, and their dreams. As the new commander, I promise to continue that support and to work to ensure your personal liberties."

Currently, the new center offers classes to young girls and women of all ages in math, English, basic health science, and computer technology. Moreover, it offers the women of Farah a place to congregate safely to freely exchange their thoughts and ideas.

"Unfortunately, some people may under appreciate your thoughts and inputs," said Mr. Zaher Shah Khadem, the Farah Provincial Minister of Economy, to the female crowd during the dedication ceremony. "However, your government does not and we want to hear from you often in order to continuously better the lives of the women in our province and across our country."
