    Provincial Reconstruction Team Farah

FARAH, Afghanistan — Three members of the Farah Ministry of Rural Reconstruction and Development met with the Farah Provincial Reconstruction Team Civil Affairs department in order to receive much needed surveying equipment to aid Afghan reconstruction efforts across the province, March 6, Forward Operating Base Farah, Afghanistan.

Laptop computers, cell phones, digital cameras, calculators, surveying kits, hand-held radios, and office furniture were all signed over to the RRD representatives by U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Jared Close.

"The goal is for them to have the tools and the equipment necessary to conduct proper site surveys, which will greatly enhance the ministry's reconstruction capacity," said Close, the non-commissioned officer in charge of the Farah PRT's Civil-Military Operations Center. "This will be an exponential leap forward for them and domestic reconstruction efforts in Farah."

The three gentlemen who came to pick up the new equipment, Mr. Shah Mahmood, the deputy director of RRD, Faizullah Khan, the RRD Supply Registry manager, and Mik Mohammad, an engineer and surveyor for RRD, all recently travelled across Farah province to explore new reconstruction projects which the ministry is going to facilitate.

"We went to Gulestan, Bakwa, Pusht Rod, and Bala Baluk Districts to see what needs to be accomplished and in what order," explained Mik Mohammad. "We saw firsthand what needs to be done and now we have the tools required to get the job done. We're very eager to get to work."

With support from Kabul and the Farah Provincial Government, the Farah Ministry of RRD works with the PRT to plan, survey, coordinate, and execute reconstruction projects throughout the province, including projects such as roads, schools, and medical clinics.

"These gentlemen have really stepped up to help the local area, especially in Shewan Village following Operation Red Thunder," said Close. "They are good at what they do and this new equipment will make them even better. Soon, they'll be doing all the work and our PRT engineers will be bored — that's the ultimate goal here."
