Yeoman First Class Korey Riddle has been selected as March’s Sailor in the Spotlight for Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC). Riddle serves as Dynamic’s (AFDL 6) administrative officer, a billet usually held by a commissioned officer or a chief petty officer. As the administrative officer, Riddle is solely responsible for both updating and validating Dynamic’s instructions, submitting all off-command correspondences, and acting as the Command Award Coordinator.

Riddle assumes a multitude of responsibilities. His comprehensive duties encompass overseeing pay and benefits, providing career guidance and counseling to Sailors, and handling legal matters in his capacity as a legal officer.

“I am my own department, I am my own person,” said Riddle. “I enjoy running my own shop so to speak. They trust me. If I don’t know the answer, I know where to find the answer.”

In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Riddle also serves as the Ballast Control Officer for Dynamic during evolutions, a role rarely filled by a Yeoman.

“YN1 Riddle has proved his professionalism and leadership while working to earn such an accomplishment and has done so with dedication on his part,” said Lt. Cmdr. Johnny Stevenson, Dynamic commanding officer. “During the week of March 4th through March 8th, YN1 took on the critical role as INSURV [Board of Inspection and Survey] Command Organizer as he led the way and systematically tracked every INSURV check until completion.”

Originally from Gadsden, Alabama, Riddle is a dedicated father of three who volunteers as a basketball coach at the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story (JEBLC) Youth Center. He is also pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity Technology at the University of Maryland Global Campus.

Prior to his arrival at MARMC two years ago, he was attached to Explosive Ordinance Disposal Mobile Unit Two and the Tactical Operations Center in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. Serving in the Navy for the past 15 years, Riddle aspires to become a Chief Petty Officer, and hopefully a Chief Warrant Officer before retiring. He has earned his Expeditionary Warfare pin and Air Warfare pin.

Riddle had some wise words for other Sailors who are looking to leave the Navy and enter the civilian workforce.

“Don’t just get out of the Navy because of your emotions or feelings,” Riddle said. “Look at the pros and cons. Look at 10 to 15 years down the road. If you can, stay in. I plan 10 years at a time and then go back from there.”

Riddle's ability to wear many hats, his pursuit of higher education, and his commitment to mentoring and volunteering in his community make him a shining example of the professionalism and excellence that define a Sailor.

MARMC, a field activity under Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), provides surface ship maintenance, management and oversight of private sector maintenance and fleet technical assistance to ships in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
