This month's “Excellent Airman” is Tech. Sgt. Dathan Hudson, a flight line crew chief with the 117th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron (AMXS)!
Hudson enlisted ten years ago as a flight line crew chief and five years ago he earned a position as an Active Guard-Reserve (AGR) in the same position. His entire family has been in the military, so naturally it spiked his interest to join as well. Hudson has enjoyed his time in the military since the beginning.
“I enjoy the hands-on aspect, actually being able to put hands on the jet, fix stuff on the jet and diagnose problems on the jet,” said Hudson. “It is really rewarding knowing I can actually diagnose stuff on the airplane and get the right people out there to work on it.”
Hudson enjoys the deployed environment. However, one of his favorite overall experiences is investing in other Airmen.
“I have had the incredible honor of helping others grow, not only in their careers, but in their lives as well,” said Hudson. “I would have to say that my favorite memories so far, are witnessing these people succeed.”
Hudson also attends school in his free time, and recently received his bachelor’s degree. He’s also current on his airframe and powerplant certifications. Hudson lives by the words of Shane Patton: “Anything in life worth doing, is worth overdoing. Moderation is for cowards.”
“I am a huge proprietor of always bettering yourself. I do not like being stagnant, so I constantly try to better myself, and I am currently working on my master’s degree,” said Hudson. “I work full-time, but I strongly advocate for constant self-improvement. I am not stopping until I receive the title of 'Doctor.'”
