Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Ryan Stephens, Leading Petty Officer for the Transportation Office (Code 1154) at Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC), has been selected as February’s Sailor in the Spotlight.

As LPO, Stephens ensures flawless execution of all fueling operations and promptly resolves any mechanical issues, guaranteeing smooth transportation logistics.

Stephens highlighted the responsibilities of his team, stating, “We own all of the vehicles here at MARMC. We complete all fuel ups and solve any issues that the vehicles here might have. Additionally, we own the facilities here, and take pride in the beautification of buildings LF-18 and CEP-200.”

Leading a team of 15 Sailors, Stephens uses his past experiences and professional wisdom to offer advice and guide his Sailors, helping them with their personal development, career paths, and transition into civilian life.

“Some of the rewards of being the LPO of Transportation is being able to watch my Sailors advance and move on with their military careers,” said Stephens. “We’ve had three Sailors advance since I’ve become LPO. Every person has their own background and identity that needs to be catered to, making teamwork and mission accomplishment more important now than it’s ever been.”

Anthony Henry, Transportation Coordinator for MARMC, commended Stephens, saying, “Stephens is a hard charger and self-starter with great initiative. If we need something done, he gets it done. He also serves as a CFL [Certified Fitness Leader] assistant and stands out as one of the top first classes for Code 1100.”

Stephens joined the Navy in 2017, compelled by his family history of military service and believing it was his time to carry the torch.

Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Stephens is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys activities such as beach outings, surfing, kayaking, hiking, and fishing in Shenandoah Park. He has been happily married to his wife, Rachel, for over seven years.

Having previously served on USS Bainbridge (DDG-96), Stephens will continue to lead Code 1154 for another year before embarking on new challenges at his next assignment.

By all accounts, BM1 Ryan Stephens represents the Navy's finest traditions of honor, courage, and commitment. MARMC is truly privileged to recognize this exemplary petty officer as February’s Sailor in the Spotlight.

MARMC, a field activity under Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), provides surface ship maintenance, management and oversight of private sector maintenance and fleet technical assistance to ships in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
