West Point, GA. – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Park Ranger Christine Dowell of the West Point Project has been named the Mobile District’s National Resources Management Employee of the Year for her outstanding service and commitment to natural resource management and public safety. Christine’s journey at West Point Lake has been marked by her passion for the outdoors and dedication to her role.
“I wanted a job that would take me outside, working with natural resources,” she said, recalling a family trip to Yellowstone that sparked her career choice. “I wanted to be a Park Ranger at West Point particularly because of all the work they were doing with Water Safety before I even arrived. ”
As the campground administrator and park attendant coordinator for four class-A campgrounds, Christine has played a crucial role in enhancing visitor experience.
“Christine works very hard to ensure that we have happy campers,” said Susan Cromer, Chief Ranger of Recreation at the West Point Project. “Her leadership was particularly vital during staffing shortages, as she quickly adapted to new responsibilities.”
Dowell’s impact extends beyond campground management. Her water safety initiatives, including the production of educational videos in partnership with the City of LaGrange and LaGrange TV, have significantly raised awareness and safety standards.
“Christine’s water safety initiatives have had a positive impact by increasing water safety awareness throughout our community,” said Jay Jamison, West Point Project manager. “Her work with the City of LaGrange, Georgia Government to develop water safety videos has provided an additional platform to help inform the public.” said Jamison .
Her innovative approach to community engagement has been a key factor in the success of the project. Christine’s efforts in developing water safety videos have provided an additional platform to inform the public about outdoor recreation opportunities and promote water safety initiatives.
Looking forward, the partnerships and community connections that Christine has fostered promise new opportunities for sharing water safety messages and recreational opportunities at West Point Lake.
“The partnerships and community connections that Christine fostered over the past year will continue to serve West Point Project,” Jamison said.“ We are anticipating future informational videos and public service announcements.”
“Christine Dowell’s exemplary service, dedication, and innovative spirit have not only earned her Mobile District NRM Employee of the Year Award, but also set a high bar for commitment to natural resource management and public safety at West Point Lake,” said Cromer.
