    21st Theater Sustainment Command

Kaiserslautern, Germany - The 21st Theater Sustainment Command, colleagues, friends and families gathered to celebrate the promotion of Brig. Gen. Ronald Ragin, commanding general of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command, as he was promoted to the rank of Maj. Gen. during a ceremony at Daenner Chapel, Kaiserslautern, Germany, on Jan. 5, 2024.

The promoting officer, Gen. Darryl Williams, commanding general, U.S. Army Europe and Africa, wanted to personally honor Ragin in front of his family, friends and service members on German soil to emphasize the importance of his leadership and partnerships he's cultivated within Europe.

“This unit is the backbone of the theater,” said Williams, “You enable this theater. You are vital to this command. The glue, the baseplate for this theater is this command. We couldn’t do anything in this theater without this command.”

Ragin assumed command of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command on June 7, 2023. After months of holding a promotable status, Ragin and seven other U.S. Army officers were formerly promoted by U.S. Army Chief of Staff, Gen. Randy George, on Dec. 7, 2023, in Washington, D.C. after the release of Senate Holds on promotions.

“This is special as we are here to honor and promote Ron and his great family,” said Williams.

Ragin kept the ceremony humble and relatively short, accordingly, to his values, “I don’t like a lot of attention on me,” said Ragin. “Never have. That’s why I fit into the SOF [Special Operations Forces] community so well. So, I’m going to shift focus on why I’m here and that’s three reasons: my family, my mentors, and the other people around me.”

During the promotion ceremony, he was pinned by his wife, Brandie, and children, Meagan and Courtney. Immediately following the ceremony, a luncheon was held for Ragin’s family, friends and colleagues to socialize and celebrate his promotion.

Ragin attributes his accomplishments throughout his career to his non-commissioned officers throughout his extensive military service.

“I believe in strong sergeants,” said Ragin. “I’m here because of my sergeants at every level.”
