24th MEU embarks Wasp ARG for PMINT

24th Marine Expeditionary Unit

ATLANTIC OCEAN -- Marines and Sailors with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) embark the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) during Amphibious Squadron (PHIBRON), MEU Integration Exercise (PMINT), from Dec. 5 to 15, 2023.

PMINT is the first of several at-sea periods in the 24th MEU’s pre-deployment training program. The exercise focuses on familiarizing Marines and Sailors with operating from naval amphibious ships, building integrated teams, and most importantly, forging naval warfighting capabilities.

“The power of the naval warfighting team comes from integrating Navy and Marine Corps capabilities and building our team of teams from the ground up,” said Col. Todd Mahar, commanding officer of the 24th MEU. “Together, as the ARG/MEU, we provide the Nation with flexibility and rapid response options without the need for access, basing, and overflight.”

During PMINT, Marines and Sailors with the ARG/MEU will conduct various training missions together in preparation for what they could encounter when deployed, including a visit, board, search and seizure mission, surface raid, air assault, and strait transit.

The 24th MEU Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) is comprised of a command element, aviation combat element, ground combat element, and logistics combat element, and embarks on naval amphibious ships alongside their Navy counterparts from the Wasp ARG. The Wasp ARG is comprised of PHIBRON 4, USS Wasp (LHD 1), USS New York (LPD 21), and the USS Oak Hill (LSD 51). Together, they form an ARG/MEU, a formidable Navy-Marine Corps team ready to deploy wherever the Nation may call.

The ARG/MEU is organized, trained, equipped, evaluated, and certified to conduct maritime expeditionary warfare and amphibious operations across the full range of military operations. Together, the 24th MEU and Wasp ARG will offer geographic combatant commanders a forward-deployed, organic combined arms force that is capable of transitioning from steady-state competition and campaigning to crisis response or high-end warfighting without external augmentation.
