    BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – 110th Wing recognized five Airmen as Outstanding Airmen of the Year at the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base (BCANG) Dec. 3, 2023, Battle Creek, Michigan.
    The award ceremony was presided by 110th Wing Commander, Colonel Daniel Kramer II. In his opening remarks, Kramer commemorated the hard work and dedication of the outstanding recipients as well as highlighted the wing’s accomplishments over 2023.

    “I feel energized to celebrate an incredible year—2023 showcased the outstanding, talented Airmen at the 110th Wing,” said Kramer. “The 110th Operations Group participated in a real-world Search and Rescue event and coordinated the historic MQ-9 landing right here in Battle Creek.”

    Kramer expounded on the successes of other groups within the wing and announced this year’s Outstanding Airmen of the Year. The 110th Mission Support Group was recognized as the best non-flying wing in the Air National Guard as well as the Comptroller Flight and Comptroller being recognized as the best in Air National Guard. Additionally, the 110th Wing received over $170,000 in Squadron Innovation Funds to resource future projects.

    This year’s Outstanding Airmen of the Year are: Airman First Class Abigail Vrielink, 110th Comptroller Flight, Tech. Sgt. Jacob Bennette, from the 110th Wing Recruiting Office, Master Sgt. Steven Jones, 172nd Attack Squadron, Master Sgt. Diana Nogiec, 110th Mission Support Group, and Capt. Danielle Pavone 172nd Attack Squadron, and Maj. Matthew Duncan from the 217th Air Combat Operations Squadron.

    They each represented the highest performance in their peer groups through separate competition categories of junior enlisted Airman, non-commissioned officer, senior non-commissioned officer, first sergeant and company grade officer.

    Airman First Class Abigail Vrielink received the Outstanding Airmen of Year award. Her attention to detail and organizational skills allowed for the proper execution of $12.7M in resources and the support of four named operations, four geographical combatant commands, and one functional combatant command.

    Tech. Sgt. Jacob Bennette received the Outstanding Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year award for his effort in securing 176% of his mission objective, accessing 44 applicants in 2023, and accounting for 45% of the team's accessions which propelled Wing manning over 104% for the first time in 20 years.

    Master Sgt. Steven Jones received the Outstanding Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year award. Jones effectively led the mission execution of 105 airmen at three separate locations, supporting 73 flight hours with two MQ-9 Reaper aircraft exercising the "hub and spoke" concept.

    Master Sgt. Diane Nogiec received the Outstanding First Sergeant of the Year award. As the Air National Guard First Sergeant Functional Assignments Manager, her training expertise developed and guided First Sergeants to be capable of maintaining an Air National Guard mission-ready force and provided an opportunity for First Sergeants to gain a higher understanding of specific issues, insights, and challenges within the Air National Guard.

    Capt. Danielle Pavone received the Outstanding Company Grade Officer of the Year award. Pavone enabled the successful execution of the 110th Wing's Deficiency Management program leading to a reduction of audit deficiencies by 61%, Inspector General Electronic Management System (IGEMS) deficiencies by 92%, and an overall 75% decrease in "undetected non-compliance" across the wing.

    Maj. Matthew Duncan, 217th Air Combat Operations Squadron intel officer an honor guard subject matter expert and routinely works with other team members to train and sharpen their skills. He personally performed 19 Military Funeral Honors Ceremonies ensuring the veterans of Michigan receive the most professional Funeral Honors available.

    “As we reflect on an incredible year, I am even more excited for 2024,” said Kramer.
