    USS Bataan (LHD 5)

    NORFOLK, VA., - The amphibious assault ship USS Bataan’s (LHD-5) recently received the Ship’s Store Retail and Service Excellence Award for fiscal year 2022. The Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) and the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) sponsor the award, evaluating and formally recognizing high performing Retail Service Divisions across the Navy for the fiscal year. This is Bataan’s fourth time receiving this award in the last 5 years.
    The Criteria for the excellence award are accountability, sustainability, inventory management, storeroom validity, merchandise arrangement, customer service satisfaction, ship’s store operations, ship’s laundry operations, and the ship’s barbershop operations.
    Throughout the evaluation, Sales and Services Division Records Keeper, Retail Service Specialist 2nd Class Celestina Amu says she is very proud of the recognition the division has received.
    “This award isn’t just highlighting one person but our whole division going all the way from our divisional officer to our Seaman” said Amu. Everyone working in the ship’s store, laundry, the storeroom personnel, and our leadership played a part in receiving this award.”
    The primary services the Bataan’s Retail Specialists provide to the crew are manning and keeping the ship’s store stocked, ensuring all laundry facilities are operational, and providing barbershop services for Sailors and Marines onboard.
    During Bataan’s Supply Management Certification, Afloat Training Group inspected all of Supply Department Operations and records resulting in an overall 93 percent score and a 97.3 percent score on records alone. The results of the certification and records management scores helped solidify the Bataan’s Retail Service Specialists in winning the award for two years consecutively.
    “This award helps recognize the ship as a whole.” Amu stated. It showcases all of our hard work and customer service.”
