The Information Warfare Training Command Monterey Detachment Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas, pinned nine service members to the honor of chief petty officer during the 2024 Fiscal Year Chief Petty Officer Pinning Ceremony at the Powell Event Center, Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas on Sept. 29.
Becoming a CPO requires passing an exam, exceptional performance evaluations and board selection. Once selected, service members must complete a six-week initiation involving physical fitness evaluations, team-building exercises, leadership training and education on Navy history and traditions.
“I feel extremely honored, humbled and excited to join the ranks of the chief petty officers’ mess,” said U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer David Nickles, Cryptologic Technician Interpretive. “Pinning the anchors is a culmination of years of hard work and determination and was only possible with support from my family and all the Sailors I have served with over the past 11 years.”
After being pinned with their anchors, each chief received a combination cover, signifying a new position of leadership and responsibility.
“I’m proud and honored to welcome you to the chief’s mess,” said U.S. Navy retired Chief Petty Officer Ken Mitchell, ceremony guest speaker. “You have honored me with your calls and impressed me with your performances. I would have been honored to serve aboard any ship with this fine group of new chiefs.”
