CAMP PHOENIX, Kabul, Afghanistan — Capt. Jean-Paul Laurenceau, of Lawrenceville, Ga., assumed command of Company C, 48th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from Capt. Corey King during a ceremony held at Camp Phoenix, Kabul, Afghanistan.
King relinquishes command after standing up Company C, over two years ago, as the first signal company in the Georgia Army National Guard, and successfully training and deploying the unit to Afghanistan with the 48th IBCT in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2009.
The mission of the company required the unit to provide signal and communication capabilities to over 40 locations within the 48th IBCT area of operations within Afghanistan.
King becomes the communications officer for the 48th IBCT. He intends to move to Virginia upon return from deployment. His major awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (w/ M Device), Army Reserve Components Overseas Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, and Georgia Commendation Medal. He also earned the gold German Army shooting proficiency badge.
Laurenceau takes command after successfully completing an assignment as the signal officer for 1st Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, 48th IBCT.
Laurenceau's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with w/ M Device, and Iraqi Campaign Medal.
