WBAMC hosted a best medic competition

El Paso, Texas - William Beaumont Army Medical Center held a best medic competition at Fort Bliss, Texas from August 8-10. The competition assesses the expertise and aptitude of WBAMC's most skilled medics.
The competitors underwent intensive two-day events that encompassed various challenges. These included an assessment of physical fitness, an obstacle course, a combat water survival, and day and night land navigation.
“Working at the hospital often limits our opportunities for training outside of our duties. However, we make the most of these situations by allowing soldiers to observe and learn from our actions while (noncommissioned officers) gain valuable hands-on experience through competitions,” said Staff Sgt. Jean Luc Hollinquest, combat medic, WBAMC.
The Best Medic Competition highlights the importance of medics in the Army. They must be physically fit, mentally strong, and skilled in various medical procedures to provide care to soldiers. The competition allows medics to assess their abilities and share knowledge with peers.
“The competition was highly intense. The duration of the task was relatively shorter compared to my previous experiences. However, the schedule was packed with consecutive activities. The intensity level was high, and it was enjoyable. The experience was both exhausting and beneficial,” said Sgt. 1st Class Paul Tiedemann, combat medic, WBAMC.
Staff Sgt. Andres Victoria, combat medic, WBAMC, and one of the competitors, expressed his feelings about the competition.
“This is highly motivating, particularly for the soldiers organizing these events. Several soldiers from my unit in the department are participating in these events, which is exciting to see. It benefits all involved, including the non-commissioned officer,” said Victoria.
At the conclusion of the competition, Hollinquest, and Tiedemann, were the top-performing medical team from WBAMC, and were selected to represent the organization in the upcoming Medical Readiness Command, West Best Medic Competition.
