Camp Buehring, Kuwait- Motor Pool Mondays are now Motor Stables Saturdays. The Army's Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) program was started to properly manage the forces combat tools and power when resupplying and regenerating any maintenance deficiencies or faults with combat-effective equipment. Army maintenance is founded on the principle that the "useful service life of Army equipment is achieved when the item is operated within its intended purpose and parameters and is maintained in accordance with its designed or engineered specifications."

The 168th Engineer Brigade conducts motor stables not just for Army standards and regulations but also to ensure that the new generation of junior and future senior leaders are well knowledgeable of their own combat equipment. For so long, the force has stressed the importance of these procedures and tasks, but they are never really enforced like they should be. Being a traditional guardsman or a weekend warrior, many can tell you it is difficult to thoroughly do a PMCS on your equipment with only two days out of the month. That's why traditional guardsmen usually have other tasks during those weekend drills like AWTs, PHAs, ACFTs, and more to complete in just one weekend.

Now that the unit has transitioned over to active-duty status, it has become easier and more flexible to set aside time for our junior leaders to train with some of our senior leaders on how to properly PMCS our equipment.

Col. Kendrick Cager, 168th Engineer Brigade Commander, stresses to his staff weekly the importance of teaching the next generation the right steps and procedures for taking care of our equipment.

Motor Stables Saturdays are not just to create more work for the soldiers to do. However, it's to ensure that whenever it's time to move the fight forward, we are combat-effective instead of ineffective.
