FORT CAVAZOS, Texas -- It’s not often enthusiasts get to meet celebrities they’ve only admired on television or social media, but fans were able to experience that one-of-a-kind feeling at a meet and greet with comic powerhouses Sherri Shepherd and Kym Whitley June 3 at the Clear Creek Exchange.

The best friends were in town performing on their “Two Funny Mamas Live” comedy tour and made a special visit to the Great Place to connect with their fans in uniform.

“This is my first time visiting a military base and I’m quite excited,” Whitley exclaimed. “As much as our military has done for us, the little bit of smiles that we can do for them is fantastic!”

“Anything you need,” Shepherd added. “It’s an honor to be here.”

Shepherd admitted that while it wasn’t her first time on a military base, it was her first visit at Fort Cavazos.

“Everybody’s been really kind here. It’s been really nice,” she expressed.

Though the seasoned entertainers boast an impressive resume of TV shows and movies between them, their comedic chops were on full display while autographing photos.

“So, I’m not sure if they let you wear wigs during the basic training,” Shepherd joked. “Therein lies the problem right there.”

“Look at our pictures, aren’t these cute! Look at Sherri’s and look at mine,” Whitley gushed. “They did a good job. You can tell the military got money.”

Throngs of admirers lined up for the opportunity to meet the famous duo and commemorate the occasion with photos.

For a group of Soldiers from the 371st Sustainment Brigade, Ohio Army National Guard, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Sgt. 1st Class Andre Clark and Staff Sgt. Samir Banks had the privilege of being the first to greet the stars.

“It’s actually great. You never really see that often,” said Clark, after taking photos with the famed comics.

Banks admitted that he’s met lots of celebrities, but he has never had the opportunity to get up close and personal.

“It’s my first time in Texas so to get an opportunity like that was pretty cool,” he expressed.

Sgt. Andreaa Renshaw shared that meeting two personalities she grew up watching was exhilarating and seeing successful black women on television made her proud.

“Just seeing African American women who are heavy in the comedy game and have their own talk shows and different things like that,” she said. “It’s amazing when they come out and actually want to meet people.”

Sgt. 1st Class Solitaire Knott shared the same sentiments after meeting the pair.

“I think it’s like a blessing when we see other black women on TV,” she said. “For them to see us and say thank you for your service, it’s like, wow! Just to see black women make it, it’s the best.”

Spc. Tijonae Turrentine shared that she was surprised by how relatable the ladies were.

“They made us feel like we were family to them,” she conveyed. “They really love their community. It was great to meet them. They’re amazing!”

Upon hearing that the Soldiers were deploying soon, the renowned comedians made sure to send them off with hugs and words of encouragement.

“You do what you do to keep us safe, and you will be in our prayers,” Shepherd reassured the Soldiers. “And we just thank you and we’re so proud to have met you. Just know that you’re in our hearts, while you’re out there. Godspeed and anointing over all of you. We love you. Thank you so much!”
