Military Police call Shotgun at the range
CAMP ROBINSON, ARKANSAS –The 216th Military Police Company 871st Battalion, 87th Troop Command preformed shotgun familiarization at Range 21, 13 May 2023.
The 216th utilize the M26 shotgun, a magazine feed bolt action shotgun. The 216th MP company undergoes this training once a year, which some Soldiers find to be too long a gap due to the influx of new Soldiers.
“We don’t qualify on this weapon but it is good training. We only get to use the 12 gauge and buck shot ammo, but we can also get issued beanbag rounds and rubber pellets that we don’t get to train with,” said CPL Caleb Rowell.
The M26 is typically used for breaching doors. Aiming at the door handle, a Military Police soldier can almost surgically remove a door knob with relative ease. The benefit of the M26 beyond this is that it can be used with the other round types. (Bean bag rounds and rubber pellets).
Though this training only comes around very rarely, Soldiers agree on one thing: lethal or non lethal, this range is one to look forward to.
We don’t get to do it very often and the M26 is a lot more fun than some of the weapons we get to shoot,” said Rowell.
