To promote family unity and involvement, JBER Life offers special memberships for service members and families at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

JBER Life is incentivizing time spent outside the house with friends and loved ones by providing special subscriber deals on all JBER Life programs.

“With the membership program, we’re offering the JBER community an opportunity for discounts through the Force Support Squadron and Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs as well as early-access and preseason aspects,” said Kelsey Patterson, 673d Force Support Squadron marketing director, likening the program to shopper incentive programs. “We’re trying to give a little bit of an incentive and a give-back with activities on the installation.”

The JBER Life membership, a monthly subscription starting June 1, offers up to 20% discounts on services and members-only events as some of their benefits. Additionally, early/preseason access to events allows members to plan in advance.

Activities include bowling, golf, arts and crafts and archery, as well as access to the auto hobby shop at a reduced rate, which provides service members an affordable means of pursuing a hobby. Otter Lake cabin rentals are also discounted through the JBER Life membership, allowing families and friends to enjoy JBER amenities conveniently.

One resource geared toward the family dynamic is the Arctic Oasis community center, where several events are coordinated.

“Most of the family-oriented programs come out of Arctic Oasis,” said Sarah Mueller, Community Services flight chief. “So they do the Back-to-School Bash, Halloween events, Easter egg hunts, and all of the typical family, kid-friendly type events. We also have the summer carnival coming up in June, which is free. We’re going to have carnival rides, food trucks and other things families can come out and participate in.”

JBER Life has played a pivotal role in integrating newly arrived servicemembers into the JBER environment and providing military families with cost-effective group activities. Additionally, through membership, participants become more involved in the JBER Life community and help support the program.

“We do all of the special events; we do all of our recreations,” said Mueller. “We’ve got the Aero Club; we have community centers; we have the Outdoor Recreation Program, which involves 13 different operations in itself. The new program is a great way for us to support the community and to encourage people to support us.”

Subscription costs for JBER Life membership range from $4 for junior enlisted to $16 for officers. All branches of service in active duty, Reserve, National Guard, Department of Defense civilians and retirees qualify for membership.

The membership card may be accessed through a smartphone via the MemberPlanet app or by visiting www.memberplanet.com/account/usaf
