The Havelock Chamber of Commerce hosted its 20th annual Salute to the Veterans event at the Havelock Tourist and Event Center, North Carolina, May 9, 2023. With many veterans, active-duty service members, and their families in attendance, the event was a way to thank them for their service and sacrifices, and to foster a closer relationship between Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, Coast Guard Station Fort Macon, and the local community. Local businesses sponsored seats for the event, which included hors d’oeuvres and dinner.
In addition to a silent auction, raffle, and cake cutting ceremony, the event was headlined by guest speaker Etteinne (ET) Mitchell, U.S. Navy veteran and commissioner for the Carteret County Board of Commissioners. The night also featured traditional ceremonies from the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band Quartet, the MCAS Cherry Point Color Guard, and Sailors from the Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point to honor those currently serving and those who came before.
“I’m asking you, my fellow veterans, to be loud and to be proud about how serving in the military made a positive difference in your life,” ET Mitchell. “Today's military is going to be tomorrow's solution.”
