CAMP HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea - Leaders from U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys and the Gyeonggi-do Province gathered for a luncheon, April 26, at the Morning Calm Conference Center.

The Good Neighbor appreciation luncheon took place in-order to recognize the efforts made in 2022 between Humphreys and local community organizations to strengthen the alliance between the U.S. and the Republic of Korea.

“With all the dedicated and hard work our Good Neighbors do for our community, this was the least we could do to show our gratitude and thanks,” said Col. Seth Graves, Humphreys garrison commander. “It is but a humble gesture of our sincere appreciation of our Good Neighbors.“

More than 160 people, representing 14 organizations, attended the luncheon. Community-relation events took place, on average, three times a month. Activities included cultural trips, festivals, and golf tournaments all designed to allow the Humphreys community the opportunity to experience the host-nation culture during their time in Korea.

Chang Won-tae, lived in Georgia for a few years, earning his master's degree from Georgia Tech University. Today he owns an information technology company in Korea and said he joined the People-to-People International (Pyeongtaek chapter), in March, with the intent to contribute to developing the relationship between the two countries.

“I participated the Tongbok Market cultural tour in March and learned about the opportunity to meet other organizations that make up the Good Neighbor program,” said Chang. “I’m looking forward to further introducing the Korean culture to U.S. Soldiers.”

The Humphreys Good Neighbor program is designed to promote and achieve harmonious relations with its various communities. The specific goals are to highlight and bring awareness to the Korean community that U.S. service members are are valuable, dependable, committed allies. In return the Humphreys community can learn about Korean government, institutions, religious activities, laws, history, culture and customs which helps establish and foster harmonious relations with community leaders, neighboring residents, Korean counterparts.
