An extraordinary event happened between Corpus Christi's major education institutions and America's aviation depot. An outreach agreement was signed as the depot continuously seeks to recruit and train the next generation of artisans and employees Students and recent graduates from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Del Mar College, and the Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend will have the opportunity to participate in employment programs with Corpus Christi Army Depot.
Letters of agreement raise awareness of the many possibilities in today's Army and provide various narratives of success after school.
"From GED to Ph.D., we're glad to be associated with this partnership and what we provide, not only here for our people, but for the rest of the world," said Colonel Kyle Hogan, commander, CCAD.
This program provides local graduates a pathway to explore career opportunities related to their academic field while simultaneously learning about civilian careers within the Department of the Army and CCAD.
Dr. Mark Escamilla, president and chief executive officer of Del Mar College, said
"Our curriculum supports that very high level of technology needed here. When the Army evolves, we evolve, which is the primary reason for reaffirming the letter of agreement.”
The depot employs over 3500 civil service and contract employees in direct and indirect roles supporting aircraft production. Sustainment must keep pace with every modernization effort to maintain a strategic advantage over our adversaries. The depot will further educate and train these future artisans on specialized rotary-wing repair and refurbishment procedures on aircraft undergoing repairs in direct support of Organic Industrial Base modernization efforts.
Dr. Kelly Miller, president of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, said, "This is a great program for students because it piques their interests in jobs, they [students] never knew existed."
CCAD has been the premier employer for many generations. Leaders want the community to understand the available technical, administrative, and leadership roles available. As the most prominent industrial employer in the Coastal Bend, the depot has expanded their recruitment efforts, for anyone to how they can become an asset to the nation's national security.
“Cultivating a specific spirit for responsible workers' attitude, we've created the foundation for people to succeed and achieve their career goals," said Dr. Wayne Kelly, president of the Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend.
Building the Army of 2030 and beyond requires the Army to care for its greatest strength and top priority – its people.
