SILVERDALE, Wash. – Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Northwest (NAVFAC NW) awarded a $49.3-million firm-fixed-price modification to a previously awarded construction contract to WSM Pacific SIOP JV, located in Honolulu, Hawaii. This modification contract provides architecture-engineer design services for the Multi-Mission Dry Dock (M2D2) at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS) located in Bremerton, Washington on 14 March.

The work to be performed provides a preliminary design authority for M2D2 at PSNS. This includes preliminary drawings, cost and schedule risk analysis, topographic survey and utility investigation, supply chain investigation, waterfront support facility utilities coordination, project management, three-dimensional renderings, concrete material analysis, subsurface and geotechnical investigation, notably.

The purpose of the proposed action—affiliated with the Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program (SIOP)—is to address critical deficiencies in dry dock capability, capacity, and seismic survivability at Naval Base Kitsap to enable PSNS to meet its mission to support the Navy’s fleet.

“The PSNS & IMF mission is an essential element of our national defense,” said CAPT. Brent Paul, NAVFAC NW Commanding Officer. “The Navy is continuing to invest heavily in shipyard infrastructure, and this contract modification will fund vital modernization efforts to our public shipyards that will ensure the U.S. maintains our maritime dominance.”

SIOP is a holistic investment plan that when fully executed will deliver required dry dock repairs and upgrades to support current and planned future classes of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines, optimize workflow within the shipyards through significant changes to their physical layout, and recapitalize industrial plant equipment with modern technology that will substantially increase productivity and safety.
