FORT HOOD, Texas -- The meeting between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII was guaranteed to be memorable and the United Service Organizations Fort Hood made sure Soldiers didn’t miss it here.

The USO Fort Hood hosted a Super Bowl party and welcomed Soldiers who came out to enjoy traditional game day fare such as pizza, sandwiches, chips and soda while they watched the game.

Patti Reece, center operations supervisor, explained that some of the Soldiers don’t have vehicles, so having the event within walking distance would help accommodate them. She added that it is important to provide a place for fun, food and football.

“These Soldiers are in the barracks, they are away from home, they want a place to be able to watch this,” she said. “This is a good facility for them to come in to relax, watch the game and get some great food.”

As a host of notable music artists kicked off the game-day festivities, Soldiers lined up to help themselves to snacks. Some didn’t have TVs and were thankful to have a place to enjoy the event.

“I don’t have anything to watch it on at home,” Sgt. Jacob Fuchs said. “So, it’s nice to come here and hang out with some of my friends.”

Fuchs wore a Chiefs t-shirt, indicating who he hoped would win. “Been a Chiefs fan all my life, ready for them to win again,” he declared.

Pfc. Lauren Dupay has only been at Fort Hood a short time. She mentioned that she loves football and it meant a lot to be able to watch the game at the USO. “I’ve been here for two or three weeks now, and I just got to my barracks room on Monday,” she explained. “I don’t have a TV or a laptop to watch it on yet, so it means a lot to be able to get out of the barracks room and be able to do something fun with my Sunday.” Dupay commented that she’s from Pennsylvania, rooting for the Eagles.

While most Soldiers were tuned in to the game, others chose to shoot pool and enjoy other activities the USO offered.

Sgt. 1st Class Gayle Cuffie spent the moments before the event playing board games with her daughter. She said the military should always support events like this, especially organizations like the USO. “I’ve visited the USO all over the world and it’s always been a great experience,” she expressed.

The event, as well as other activities the organization hosts weekly, would not be possible without the help of volunteers.

Caitlyn Bullock was one of a handful of volunteers who served Soldiers and made sure they had everything they needed to enjoy the game.

“I just love giving back to the Soldiers,” she said. “They do so much and it’s just a fun place for them to relax and have a good time, get some work done if they want to, but really just be able to have time away from work to just hang out. I think it’s the most important thing Fort Hood could do for these Soldiers,” Bullock declared.
