FORT BLISS, Texas - The Army’s purpose is to engage and destroy the enemies of the United States, but it can’t complete its mission unless it has working vehicles. Wheeled vehicle mechanics ensure that every vehicle in their unit is mission ready.

1st Armored Division Artillery has dedicated wheeled vehicle mechanics that make sure every vehicle is mission capable, from its M109A7 Paladins to its Light Medium Tactical Vehicles.

Spc. Logan Ritchie, a 91B assigned to the maintenance section of HHB(Head and Headquarters Battalion) 1AD DIVARTY, works with his team to repair vehicles that are in need of maintenance.

“Sometimes we get a job that requires more than one soldier,” Ritchie said. “If a soldier needs help, we all pitch in to get the job done and finished to the standard of mission readiness”

HHB’s maintenance section is committed to providing fast and thorough service to ensure that any vehicle brought to them is mission ready, fostering a trust between both themselves and the units who bring the vehicles to them.

Teamwork is imperative in the mechanics bay. Without it, mission readiness can’t be achieved.

Pfc. Demilade Olawale Lasisi, a 91B assigned to the maintenance section, spoke on the work needed to complete missions between his team to meet the standards given.

“We are equipped to handle any wheeled vehicles to make sure every unit can complete their mission, usually it is not a one man job," Lasisi said. "You will need to learn how to work together and ask for help; if you can’t do that you won’t make it.”

These soldiers make sure the vehicles were operational when the time comes for command post exercises, Artillery Tables, and deployment readiness exercises.

“There’s a feeling when you complete the job assigned to you,” Lasisi said. “You get a mix of pride and accomplishment because you know you did your best.”
