FORT BLISS, Texas- The Fort Bliss installation deployment support team assists 1st Battalion, 67th Armored Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division in conducting movement operations Feb. 22.
The IDST is responsible for inspecting a unit's vehicles and having them ready to rapidly deploy.
"Our sole mission is to support the warfighter to deploy anywhere in the world, on short notice," said Mike Gonzales, an installation deployment support team member. "So the job itself is rewarding because we get to integrate with the Fort Bliss units and assist the installation in deploying anywhere in the world."
IDST personnel aid units by showing them any possible deficiencies a vehicle may have, which would render it non-deployable.
"What I'm looking for is proper labeling, proper stenciling, unit identification codes, so that the vehicle doesn't become stalled," said Gonzales. "So, my job is to inspect their cargo and allow the cargo to move smoothly to the deployment readiness reaction field."
Once a vehicle is cleared from the movement area they will again be inspected at the deployment readiness reaction field where it will undergo a final inspection. Once this process is completed to standard the vehicle will then move to the rail yard.
"Our scope is to synchronize, collaborate, coach, teach, and mentor the warfighter as well as to bring our experience to the game, so that they can move successfully," said Gonzales.
Gonzales is a veteran with over 22 years of service and retired as a brigade mobility warrant officer.
"We're not here to critique, we're not here to push back, we're here to be an asset, a helping hand, which I think the installation has done a great job with understanding," said Gonzales. "We've become an element with them, to assist and guide them, to add our expertise coming from transportation backgrounds."
