SOUTHWEST ASIA — Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations, Jan. 13, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan:
Asadabad
Pilots flying Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon aircraft provided armed overwatch and force protection for a troop insertion mission. The pilots conducted shows of force to deter potential enemy action. The shows of force were effective at preventing enemy fire during the insertion mission.
Asmar
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch and force protection for a convoy mission. The convoy was reported to be in the vicinity of an enemy small arms and mortar team. The aircrew conducted a show of force to deter any anti-Afghan forces activity in the area. Later, aircrews conducted a show of force to deter activity by suspicious personnel on a ridge and in close proximity to the friendly forces. The shows of force were effective as no enemy activity was noted.
Lashkar Gah
Navy pilots flying F/A-18C Hornet aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The pilots were tasked with conducting a show of force over an area where friendly forces were operating. The show of force was deemed successful.
