FARAH, Afghanistan— Members of the Farah Provincial Reconstruction Team visited the Farah City District III Girls School on Jan. 4, to assess what construction and development projects are necessary there.
With over 1,400 female students ranging in age from 7 to 25 attending the school, overcrowding and space issues are a major concern.
The school only consists of four normal classrooms; the remaining classes are held in 17 tents which have been erected inside the school's compound due to the recent influx of students from villages in the surrounding area.
"We have the best teachers and the best students here," said Homarair Iubi, the headmaster for the school. "Now we just need room for them all."
Once the PRT has completed its assessment, their report will be sent to Kabul for review.
"Our report will be sent through official channels to the Minister of Education," said U.S. Navy Lt. Stephen Feddor, an engineer assigned to the PRT. "The sooner the administration in Kabul is aware of the situation here, the sooner they can begin to address it."
