NAS JRB Fort Worth (Dec. 6, 2022) – Fleet Readiness Center Reserve Mid-West (FRC-MW) and Fleet Readiness Center Detachment Fort Worth (FRC Det. FTW) recognized two Sailors as FRC-MW’s Sailor of the Year, and one Sailor as the Blue Jacket of the Year, Nov. 30 during a small ceremony on board the installation.

The Senior and Junior FRC-MW Sailors of the Year are Yeoman 1st Class Gerda Dessalines and Aviation Electrician’s Mate 2nd Class Ricardo Lopez, respectively. Logistics Specialist Seaman Xinyue Huang is the Blue Jacket Sailor of the Year.

YN1 Dessalines said she is excited to be recognized as the FRC-MW Senior Sailor of the Year. By taking the initiative and going “above and beyond,” Dessalines said she tries to mentor and uplift junior Sailors while helping them set and achieve goals.

“It’s important to know that you can achieve anything you set your mind to,” said Dessalines. “Being female, and a woman of color from a different cultural background, I know these attributes only make up a portion of who I am,” said Dessalines, “but I never let that hinder what I could become.” Dessalines said she leads by example, strives be a positive role model and represent those Sailors that may be otherwise underrepresented.

AE2 Lopez said winning FRC-MW’s Junior Sailor of the Year proved to him that with hard work, consistency, and being honest, he could accomplish much. “As a junior Sailor I have learned that it takes a village…,” said Lopez, “and once I embraced what my mentors taught me, I saw myself achieving more goals.”

LSSN Huang said to compete for the Blue Jacket of the Year she studied using the Navy digital library to achieve success in the boards. “Being open to the guidance of those mentoring you and being confident in yourself is another important factor when preparing for competition,” said Huang.
