The 111th Attack Wing Recruiting and Retention Flight here opened the base to local high school juniors and seniors during a military career fair Nov. 9, 2022.

More than 70 students from approximately eight local high schools attended the event for an opportunity to learn more about Pennsylvania Air National Guard careers from dozens of men and women currently serving with the 111th Attack Wing at Biddle Air National guard Base in Horsham, Pennsylvania.

“The career fair was a huge success,” said PAANG Master Sgt. Micah Cascone, 111th ATKW Recruiting and Retention Flight Chief. “We had 75 students RSVP to the event. In addition, more than 30 volunteers from 13 different squadrons affiliated with the 111th ATKW made themselves available to answer questions about their Air Force Specialty Code, or AFSC.”

With the support of dozens of 111th ATKW Airmen, students were able to explore the career options available to them in the Air National Guard.

“I came out today because I’m interested in joining the military,” said Brandon Roach, a senior at Garnet Valley High School, who was most interested in the 201st Rapid Engineer Deployable, Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineer (RED HORSE), Detachment 1. “I enjoyed the RED HORSE tour of the vehicle maintenance department.”

Cascone credited the event’s success to the cooperation of the local high schools, the Airmen who volunteered, and the interest of the local students.

“It’s encouraging to see so many students interested in learning more about military service,” said Cascone, who is part of a recruiting and retention team that exceeded its mission last year and placed in the top eight across the entire Air National Guard. “Regardless of their decision, it’s important students know they can serve their community, and their country, while maintaining an academic, or professional career.”
