USAG Ansbach Kicks-off Walking Housing Town Halls

ANSBACH, Germany (October 21, 2022) – On 19 October, U.S. Army Garrison (USAG) Ansbach hosted the first-ever walking town hall live on the official USAG Ansbach Facebook page where the Ansbach community had the opportunity to tune in and watch as housing areas on Katterbach and Bleidorn Kasernes' were toured and discussed.

"We are taking our housing issues head-on," said Col. Aaron Dixon, USAG Ansbach garrison commander. "I need the community’s voice, the things that I'm told now will affect the betterment of life for the future. That's why it's so important to get out there and talk with the people in our community."

The walking town hall was presented by the Garrison Command team who are working closely with the Housing Team and the Directorate of Public Works (DPW).

"This is a great way to interface with the community, break down barriers and show everyone what we are doing," said 1st Sgt. Maurice Hendrixon, garrison interim senior enlisted leader. "Getting these walk-throughs out in the community and having this kind of interaction will allow us to identify problems, fix them and draw attention to them."

The tour of the housing areas was facilitated by Monica Griffitt, Director, Directorate of Public Works for USAG Ansbach, along with Cheryl Richardson, housing chief, and Luther Sargent, housing manager.

"When I heard about the walk-through I knew it was something we needed to do and I am so excited that our leadership decided to do it," said Griffitt. "It's a great opportunity to show people in the community what we are doing and they can ask questions. It will also give everyone a chance to see what is going on around them and how things are improving in Ansbach."

Throughout the tour of the Bleidorn and Katterbach Kasernes' the splash pad, parks, and other recreational areas were also covered.

Community members were asked to submit questions for the housing teams.

"Where can we send an Interactive Customer Evaluation (ICE) comment for housing? I haven’t found an option for housing," asked one audience member. Griffitt answered live on stream, "While the housing team works on getting an ICE comment page all housing comments should be submitted through the DPW ICE page in the meantime."

The Katterbach rolladens project was also discussed during the town hall. Griffitt responded that the project has already begun and is ongoing with iterations of five buildings being completed at a time.

As part of his efforts to improve quality of life on post Dixon reiterated the “We are Ansbach” vision he has for the garrison, “’We are Ansbach’… we are a small community, it takes a lot of effort and volunteering. Much likes it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to make a small military community like this one work.”

The next housing town hall will be tentatively held on 18 January 2023 and will be covering important topics like the Army Maintenance Application (ArMA).
