    Marine Corps Information Operations Center

QUANTICO, Virginia. – Marines with the Marine Corps Information Operations Center stationed at Marine Corps Base Quantico, partner nation and joint force service members and members from several government agencies executed Information Warfighter Exercise aboard Camp Upshur from September 11th to September 23rd, 2022.

IWX is a semi-annual training event that combines Operations in the Information Environment war-gaming with realistic, immersive field training.

“One of the most important aspects of the IWX is that we come together with our allies and partners,” said Col. Rory Kent, Commanding Officer of MCIOC. “We are campaigning with them in the information domain day to day so exercises like IWX allows us to hone our skills in a controlled environment so that we can seamlessly transition from campaigning into conflict,” said Kent.

This is the 5th iteration of the MCIOC-led semi-annual exercise designed to afford U.S. Military forces, allies, and partners the opportunity to train together, focusing on the integration, coordination, and synchronization of all actions taken in the Information Environment in order to create an operational advantage for a commander. Approximately 70 allied and partnered service members along with 40 U.S. Military personnel participated in this year’s training.

IWX provides a unique opportunity for USMC, joint, and partner nation forces to integrate OIE across multiple domains throughout the exercise. Participants collaborated through planning and execution in tactical teams and on a unit staff level. They also worked together on tactical Information Operations skills during a full week of interactions with role-players. MCIOC trains continuously with bilateral and joint forces and federal agencies to provide operational support to Marine Corps component commands and Marine Air-Ground Task Forces. It also provides OIE subject matter expertise in support of Marine Corps OIE advocates and proponents to enable the effective integration of OIE into Marine Corps operations. The next iteration of the bilateral and joint IWX is scheduled for fall 2023.

IWX reaffirms to the Marine Corps that MCIOC, the Marine Corp’s service-retained OIE force, remains proficient, ready, and future-focused as the OIE subject matter expertise in support of Marine Corps.
