    CAPT Matt “Francis" Mulcahey is a native of Kingwood, Texas, and commissioned through NROTC at Texas A&M University in May 2001 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in civil engineering. He winged as a naval flight officer in August 2002 at Naval Air Station Pensacola and was selected for assignment to the EA-6B Prowler at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington. CAPT Mulcahey is a 2012 graduate of the Naval War College.

    His EA-6B operational tours as an Electronic Countermeasures Officer (ECMO) include: the “World Famous Black Ravens” of VAQ-135, the “Lancers” of VAQ-131 and the “Gray Wolves” of VAQ-142. As an EA-18G Growler Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO), he served as Executive Officer and then as Commanding Officer of the “Yellow Jackets” of VAQ-138.

    CAPT Mulcahey’s deployments include: USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) and USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM and NEW DAWN, and expeditionary deployments in support of Commander, Task Force 70, Misawa, Japan.

    Ashore he was assigned to the “Vikings” of VAQ-129 as a Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor, attended the Prowler Tactics Instructor (PTI) course at the Electronic Attack Weapons School and the Naval War College, and served as VAQ Assignments Officer (Detailer) at PERS-43 in Millington, Tennesse.

    Most recently, he completed training for the AVN (Aviation Nuclear) career pipeline, including Nuclear Power and Prototype schools, and reported as the Executive Officer, USS GERALD R. FORD (CVN 78) in September 2022.

    CAPT Mulcahey has accumulated over 2,500 flight hours and over 500 carrier arrested landings. He credits his awards and accomplishments to his family, friends and shipmates throughout the years. He currently resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with his wife Taryn and three boys, Marshall, Merrick and Macallan.
