Members from Pacific Air Forces and Indo Pacific Command partner nations hosted the Dili Health Care Leaders Summit 2022, Sept. 5 in Dili, Timor-Leste, prior to Pacific Angel 2022-4.

The summit, led by Pacific Air Forces medical personnel, was a forum for health care subject matter experts to exchange knowledge regarding top clinic and public health concerns and best practices.

“We are honored to be here,” said Maj. Inara Xie, PAC ANGEL 22-4 lead medical planner. “We hope that this is one of many medical knowledge exchanges where we can discuss patient care practices and techniques, and highly concerned public health topics. In the medical field, we are always looking for ways to improve our services; subject matter exchange forums with our partners help us to do that. ”

PACAF began its partnership with Timor-Leste in 2015 with PAC ANGEL 15-2 when U.S. Air Force and Navy members partnered with Defense Forces of Timor-Leste and the New Zealand Army to provide humanitarian assistance to the citizens of Baucau, a town located east of Dili, the country capital.

“We’d like to thank PACAF for the support from 2015 until now,” said Maria Natalia, Timor-Leste Minister of Public Health director of policy, planning and cooperation. “Your public health support has been beneficial to our community and we look forward to our continued partnership.”
The summit agenda included presentations from both Timor-Leste and PACAF health care experts on health and military health care, vaccination programs, cervical cancer concerns and management, and intensive care capabilities.

“Opportunities like this are essential to our future,” said Maj. Manuel Mendes Pereira, second-in-charge of medical planning for the Timor-Leste Defense Force. “We benefit greatly when we learn from each other… it helps us to provide better care for our people.”

PAC ANGEL 22-4 focuses on capacity building through health services outreach events, the Engineering Civic Action Program and subject matter expert exchanges.

“Events like these are important to building continued partnerships” said Lt. Col. Ian Friel, PAC ANGEL 22-4 TLS mission commander. “Every opportunity that we have to learn from and work alongside our allies and partners enhances trust and promotes long-term relationships.”
