It is independently confirmed: Eisenhower Army Medical Center delivers 5-Star patient care.

In an upcoming report from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, “EAMC scored above national and state averages on most measures” in CMS’ Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, according to EAMC’s Joseph M. Bird, deputy, Quality and Safety.

Additionally, wrote Bird in a recent e-mail, according to the “most recently published scores for EAMC, [we scored] higher than any of the five major hospitals in our local area.”

The data is from 2021, the most recent year that data is available.
HCAHPS’ overall summary awarded EAMC five stars, and areas surveyed included communication with nurses and doctors, communications about medicines and care transitions. Areas that scored four stars, leaving some room for improvement, included quietness of hospital and discharge information.

Oddly enough, wrote Bird, “CMS does not publicize the overall summary star rating for DOD and VA hospitals, which for EAMC is five stars. What they do publish is the ‘Patient Survey Rating,’ which for EAMC is four out of five stars ... also higher than other local hospitals.”

“I’m extremely proud of the Eisenhower team,” EAMC Commander, Col. Heidi Mon, said. “The rating validates that the hard work and dedication of this amazing team is meeting the expectations of our beneficiaries.”

“Three broad goals have shaped HCAHPS,” according to CMS’ website, www.cms.gov. “First, the survey is designed to produce data about patients' perspectives of care that allow objective and meaningful comparisons of hospitals on topics that are important to consumers. Second, public reporting of the survey results creates new incentives for hospitals to improve quality of care. Third, public reporting serves to enhance accountability in health care by increasing transparency of the quality of hospital care provided in return for the public investment.”
