JOINT BASE ANACOSTIA-BOLLING, Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Air Force will celebrate its 75th Anniversary with a “Tattoo” on Sept. 15 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. The event will feature appearances by special guests, including multi-platinum artist Andy Grammer.

This free event will be open to the public and will include performances by The United States Air Force Band; the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard; a Thunderbirds flyover and more. During the Tattoo, low-level aerial flyovers will produce smoke and noise. These have been coordinated and approved with federal airspace authorities.

Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. CQ Brown, Jr., Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force JoAnne S. Bass and other senior leaders will be joined by air chiefs from around the world at this unique event that showcases the service’s premier band, ceremonial, and air demonstration units.

“This year marks our 75th anniversary, and my hope is that Americans across the country and across the globe have the opportunity to see the U.S. Air Force in action as we celebrate this historic milestone,” noted Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. CQ Brown, Jr. “Airmen will always be there to provide America with the Airpower it needs to defend the nation, help diplomacy proceed from a position of strength, reassure our partners and allies, and deter or defeat our adversaries.”

The Tattoo performance is derived from 17th century European armies, who sent military drumlines into towns to summon soldiers back to their barracks. Over the years, the tradition has morphed into an event that showcases military pride and professionalism. Today, a new generation of Airmen will honor the Air Force’s 75 years of integrity, excellence and service, while celebrating the future of their mission.
