NCIS Washington DC Field Office participated in the National Night Out 2022 to promote police-community partnership and neighborhood camaraderie in an effort to make our neighborhoods safer, reestablish trust and improve quality of life. The event is an annual community-building campaign with celebrations and participation from all 50 states and many military bases worldwide. Neighbors in the local area joined law enforcement agencies for food trucks and family-friendly entertainment.
On the lawn of Gateway Green, NCIS personnel interacted with local law enforcement and the community, distributing information cards that allow parents to maintain biometric information about their children. The purpose of these information cards is to have on-hand in case they need to give a through description to law enforcement.
NCIS personnel provided additional information to civilians on what is the agency’s role within the Department of the Navy, as well as what are their mission priorities. They handed out cybersecurity brochures as well as business cards detailing their tip line for crime reporting.
The increased engagement of NCIS with local law enforcement partners during National Night Out provides a vector to better support the Fiscal Year 2022 Crime Reduction Program focus, generating the opportunity to collaborate in future events such as gun violence/active shooter awareness and prevention events.
