FORT DIX, N.J., -- The Soldiers of the Mobilization Readiness Battalion , Army Support Activity, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, formed up at the Griffith Field House to participate in a change-of-command ceremony, Dec. 1.
The MRB's Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Alpha Company and Bravo Company stood in formation for the formal relinquishing of command by Lt. Col. Michael Worth and the assumption of command by Lt. Col. David Polaneczky. Presiding over the ceremony was Col. Larry Boyd, deputy commander for mobilization, ASA, JB MDL.
Boyd praised Worth for a job well done and stated that during his tenure as the battalion commander, the ASA had been the busiest mobilization station in the Army Reserve and that Worth had been a big part of the successful mission.
With the passing of the guidon, Polaneczky became the new commander of the MRB. Boyd said that Polaneczky is a proven leader who is no stranger to the ASA, having served in the 1079th Garrison Support Unit from 1999 until 2007.
Worth shared a few words of gratitude to those who had supported him through his time at the MRB.
"I would like to thank those who had faith in my abilities and asked me to stay on mobilization for five years. The 21 months I have had the privilege of commanding the Mobilization Readiness Battalion have been challenging, yet fulfilling. Although I only served for five years during this mobilization, the Army has given me a lifetime of experience," Worth said.
Polaneczky was short and succinct in his remarks. He thanked the leadership for having confidence in him to accept the challenge of command, and his family for supporting him throughout his career. He took a moment to thank the American Soldiers for their service to the country.
"I am both honored and humbled to be counted among you," he said.
As Worth demobilizes, he will return to his civilian employment as the director of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Camden Field Office.
Polaneczky enlisted in the Army in 1983 and served as a military policeman until 1986. A graduate of Temple University in 1990 as a Distinguished Military Graduate, he was commissioned a Regular Army Transportation Corps Officer.
Assigned to the 329th Transportation Company (Heavy Boat), Polaneczky was a platoon leader and then executive officer. His next endeavor was to help build and deploy the 710th Provisional Boat to Somalia where he served as the executive officer. He completed his tour on active duty with the 558th Transportation Company as a vessel maintenance officer, accountable officer, and Dive Boat officer-in-charge.
Polaneczky joined the Army Reserve in 1998 and was assigned to the 5th Brigade, 78th Division in Baltimore, Md., as a Transportation Lanes observer controller. In 1999, he transferred to the 1079th GSU as the Port Support Activity Call Forward officer-in-charge. When the Global War on Terrorism began, he was mobilized and served as the Arrival/Departure Airfield Control Group officer-in-charge and the Headquarters and Headquarters Company commander. Upon demobilization, he was assigned as the director of Logistics, 1079th GSU. In 2007, he assumed command of E Company, Small Arms Readiness Group. He trained and mobilized Detachment 42 to Fort Dix. In June 2009, Polaneczky assumed command of the 1104th Mobilization Support Battalion.
As a Citizen-Soldier, he is a senior care account manager for GSK Pharmaceuticals. He is married to the former Erica Brooks. They have three children — Spencer, Brooke, and Ian.
