RS 22 tests airlift, AE capabilities in Guatemala

GUATEMALA CITY, GUATEMALA – U.S. and Guatemalan military personnel participated in a two-week segment of Resolute Sentinel 22, where it tested their airlift and aeromedical evacuation capabilities in a deployed location from June 10 – 22, in both Guatemala and Honduras.

RS22 is a multi-national training opportunity that offers real-world benefits to U.S. and partner nation military personnel and the people of Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador by promoting well-being and readiness in addition to building long-term partnerships.

“Resolute Sentinel 22 is great for strengthening international relations,” said Master Sgt. Bret Christofferson, 433rd Contingency Response Flight team chief. “This really tests our ability to operate in different part of the world and to interact with our foreign allies.”

Aircrew from the 815th Airlift Squadron assigned to Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi, conducted both the airlift and AE missions, testing their abilities to respond to any situation that they may encounter.

The AE portion of the training was conducted in La Ceiba, Honduras, where a group of Airmen assigned to the 908th, 514th, 932nd, 439th, and 514th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadrons worked side by side with local military, red cross, and first responders to help in the local communities and to train them in the in’s and out’s of the AE mission.

“We have been showing our Aeromedical capabilities and how we treat various medical and trauma conditions in the air, and also showing how we respond to aircraft emergencies,” said Senior Master Sgt. Brandi Seibel, 932 AES, “Some of the Honduras military and first responders were able to fly on some training missions and observe what we do first hand. We have also had the opportunity to visit and observe the local hospital, public health clinic, local fire department and Red Cross.”

The training was beneficial for all involved, and it gave everyone a chance to learn something new.

“This has been an amazing opportunity collaborating and having great cross talks with the Honduras military and local community,” said Seibel. “We may speak different languages but we all have the same goal of providing the best medical care.”

Finally, the 815th AS was able to test their airlift capabilities by conducting static line and freefall operations over Guatemala with service members of the U.S. and Guatemalan military, testing their abilities to operate together and sharing their knowledge in airborne operations.

While this was only a small part of the large-scale Resolute Sentinel 22, it provided all involved a great chance at receiving training they wouldn’t normally get at home as well as strengthening the relations with local forces.
