03 June 2022 - Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 11 held a change of command ceremony onboard Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC)’s Training Hall in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Commander (CDR) Benjamin C. Waite assumed command of NMCB-11 from CDR Michael W. McCain, bringing an end to McCain's two-year assignment as the battalion's commanding officer.

The ceremony's guest speaker and presiding officer, Captain (CAPT) Jeffrey C. Deviney, Commander, Naval Construction Group (NCG) 2, delivered praises to CDR McCain for his accomplishments during his time with the battalion. These accomplishments included a successful deployment in which members of the battalion supported various task forces and assisted with processing refugees, effectively navigating a very sensitive environment.

During the ceremony, CAPT Deviney presented CDR McCain with a Meritorious Service Medal for his outstanding achievements while leading the battalion. CDR McCain has helped to establish a strong culture that prides itself on excellence in the execution of projects, completion of trainings, and demonstration of skill and readiness during battalion field exercises. Our current Battle E designation, an award that CAPT Deviney also presented to McCain in April of this year, is a true testament to the strength and effectiveness of the leadership within Lucky Eleven.

Replacing CDR McCain is CDR Waite, whose Naval service began upon graduating from Union College in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Waite, who has also earned a Master of Science in Coastal Engineering from the University of Florida, has served operational tours as Company Commandeer/OIC Detail Camp Buehring, Kuwait, NMCB 74 and as an Operations Officer with NMCB 1. His shore assignments include Assistant Public Works Officer, NAVFAC Washington; Ocean Engineering Instructor, United States Naval Academy; Construction Manager, PWD Annapolis, NAVFAC Washington; Engineering Officer/Department Head for Navy Experimental Dive Unit, Panama City, Florida; Assistant Operations Officer, NAVFAC Far East; and Public Works Officer, Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka.

CAPT Deviney spoke of his confidence in CDR Waite, whose leadership will continue to build on the standards of excellence set by CDR McCain.

In his remarks, CDR Waite shared, “We are all reflections of the people who invest in us.” A remark which acknowledges the importance of buy-in and investment of leadership at all levels, the hallmark of CDR McCain’s tenure.

Thank you, CDR McCain, for all that you invested in NMCB-11. We are truly a reflection of your dedication to excellence. CDR Waite, we welcome you and cannot wait to see how far you take us!
