The air station's Emergency Operations Center led the exercise, dubbed HURREX, in coordination with designated directorates. The scenario tested standing operating procedures for destructive weather events, including readiness, reporting, and response efforts.
During the exercise event the staff stood up mock emergency sheltering options and employed role players to help validate its current procedures. Part of the exercise was conducted at the Cherry Treehouse, which provides shelter for anyone with valid installation access in the event of a hurricane. During HURREX , Marines volunteered to set up cots inside the gymnasium and role-play as members of the community seeking shelter.
