OKLAHOMA CITY – Twelve National Guard Soldiers from across six states arrived to begin the events of the Regional Best Warrior Competition at Regional Training Institute, Oklahoma on May 16, 2022.
The competition tests Soldiers on their tactical proficiency, as well as recognizes individuals who excel in their physical and technical skills and embody the Army Values. Competitors must demonstrate a variety of skills relevant for today’s citizen Soldiers.
The events also promote a spirit of teamwork and esprit de corps among Soldiers across multiple states and positions.
Each Soldier will complete nine events over the course of five days. The competition kicked off with an Army Combat Fitness Test, then will continue with day and night land navigation courses, an obstacle course, Army Warrior Tasks, multiple weapons marksmanship events and an appearance before a board of sergeants major. The events culminate in a grueling 12-mile ruck march.
The competitors have each earned their spot to compete as the winners from their respective state’s Best Warrior Competition in March. One noncommissioned officer and one junior enlisted represent each state, including Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Missouri, and Arkansas.
The winners of this year’s event will go on to represent this region in the Army National Guard's 2022 Best Warrior Competition.
