FLNG joins Caribbean Defence Force representatives during Key Leader Engagement

Senior leaders and representatives were among the participating members of the international event. Major General James O. Eifert, The Adjutant General of Florida, discussed the state’s Emergency Response Preparedness and the resources available to support these partner nations in the event of a disaster or humanitarian aid. The KLE provided a communication platform for all nations attending to discuss their current procedures as well as their plans for furthering interoperability moving into future operations.

“For me, the beauty of it is coming out of what's been a very restrictive travel period due to COVID constraints,” said Eifert. “It’s an opportunity for us to re-engage and retool our partnership, find ways that we can continue to benefit one another, and let them see what we have to offer to that partnership from both our facilities, our people, our training venues, all those kinds of things, as well as our equipment.”

The increased safety and security in our hemisphere has been a key initiative for the SPP. Multinational events like Tradewinds, the Caribbean Women, Peace, and Security Conference, and other knowledge exchanges have been just some of the many ways the FLNG has maintained an active role in remaining “Right, Ready and Relevant.”

“We, within the region, are impacted by hurricanes almost annually and to see best practices here currently conducted by the FLNG was great,” said Commodore Errington Shurland, Barbados Defence Force (BDF) Chief of Defence. “ I think there's potential for us to train in Camp Blanding or have some trainers come down to our facilities so that we can practice those skills. Having a look at what the FLNG also does in terms of the counter-drug effort, I think there are also possibilities to further deepen our partnerships there as well.”

According to Shurland, the KLE was a positive step forward for the nations both as individuals and partner forces. The SPP continues to foster relationships that ensure safety and collaborative peacekeeping missions in the region.
