COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Army Space and Missile Defense School recently provided ground-based midcourse defense training for 35 Soldiers, Airmen, Guardians and civilians.

The training is the first of an ongoing effort to educate space warriors on how the Army contributes to the overall missile defense mission.

The students included members from the 17th Test Squadron stationed at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado; Soldiers from the 1st Space Brigade at Fort Carson Army Post, Colorado; and members from U.S. Space Command at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado.

The Army’s GMD Staff Course is tailored for personnel who directly or indirectly support the missile defense system or GMD operations. The AGSC provides operational familiarization on the GMD Fire Control system and how it supports the homeland defense mission.

The students who attended the AGSC course gained a thorough understanding of the GMD architecture, which will allow these organization to better support the missile defense operational testing efforts that fall under the responsibility of U.S. Space Force.

The instructor team also benefited from the experience of training space personnel.

“As a long time GMD instructor, I am always happy to train people on GMD,” said Bill Spriggs, course manager. “This was an exciting opportunity to learn about space operations and testing. This iteration of the course was as much an interchange of information as it was an opportunity to provide information."

The next offering will be available at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. Interested parties can contact the course registrar at (719) 552-1123 or (719) 453-7093.
