FORT CARSON, Colo. – The 4th Infantry Division hosts Ivy Week 2022 May 23-26 to celebrate its history and showcase Ivy Spirit across the Mountain Post.

This year battalions will battle through 18 events over a three-day period. The different events highlight individual mastery of Army tasks, unit cohesion and trust in leaders. Ivy Week will culminate in a day filled with championship competitions and an award ceremony where one unit will receive the Commander’s Cup.

“Ivy Week will act as a reminder of how awesome this division, its battalions and Soldiers are,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Adam Nash, senior enlisted leader, 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson.

Individual competitions include the return of hand-to-hand combat, the Best Army Combat Fitness Test, and the Ivy 2- and 10-miler. The first to fourth-place winners in each event earn points for their battalion.

“The individual events show that Ivy Soldiers are experts at their craft,” said Nash. “It helps build a culture of competitiveness that is needed to be READY.

“Team events, such as the Best Squad Competition, highlight the importance of a positive climate where Soldiers are members of a cohesive team that helps display how highly trained, disciplined and fit the squad is.”

Along with the grueling, two-day Best Squad Competition, team events include basketball, soccer, and golf. The winners of the best squad will not only don the Ivy Week medal but go on to represent the division in the III Corps Best Squad Competition.

“I want units to really think about what makes up a squad,” said Sgt. Maj. of the Army Michael Grinston. “’This Is My Squad’ isn’t just about the traditional infantry squad. It’s about those small groups of Soldiers who

really know and care about each other and hold each other to a high standard of proficiency, discipline, and fitness.”

Additional team events include softball and flag football tournaments. Each of these tournaments are bracket-style elimination.

The Ivy Division develops creative leaders, problem-solvers, and risk-takers who know and adhere to the standards and accomplish their mission regardless of the obstacles. These leaders also expand their understanding of the Army profession to prepare the division for the complexity that exists on the modern battlefield.

Not only are all Mountain Post Soldiers invited to compete this year, but certain Ivy Week competitions are senior leader events. The Mabry Mile obstacle course is for battalion command teams and above only to emphasize the Ivy Spirit. Soldiers can watch their leaders compete on their behalf for unit pride and points towards the commander’s cup.

Also new to Ivy Week is Ivy’s Got Talent. Ivy’s Got Talent will showcase non-traditional expertise. Mountain Post Soldiers will be judged on imagination, creativity, confidence, and performance by a panel of Mountain Post leaders.

Ivy Week is a time for all Mountain Post Soldiers to have pride in themselves, their units and leaders.
