FORT CARSON, Colo. - The month of May is Asian-American Pacific Islander Heritage Month and the 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson are taking time to recognize their accomplishments and contributions. One of those people is Spc. Scyrrus Corregidor, an infantryman assigned to 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Inf. Div.

Corregidor is originally from Santa Fe Leyte, Philippines. He and his family moved to the United States when he was just eleven years old on Nov. 11, 2011. Moving to the United States was a change for the large Filipino family; however, they knew there was a better life in America.

“My first time in the United States, I felt like a new person. Like Disney, magical,” said Corregidor. “So many cars and buildings.”

Understandably, Corregidor found it challenging to learn English, which was also a barrier to integrating into the culture he found himself in. Fortunately, with the assistance of his teachers, he said he was able to integrate well.

Corregidor had aspirations to become a naturalized citizen and the U.S. Army seemed to be one of the best routes to do that. On Jan. 7, 2019, Corregidor joined the U.S. Army.

“I am proud, you know,” said Corregidor’s father, Edwin. “Two years before joining, Scyrrus worked on his PT and set goals to reach.”

Almost immediately after joining the U.S. Army, Corregidor began working on his citizenship. It was a daunting task with the paperwork, signatures, and classes. After three years, Corregidor fulfilled his dream and became a naturalized citizen in March 2022.

“Getting my citizenship was a very long process,” said Corregidor. “I have been waiting for three years to finally complete the whole process of my naturalization. I am grateful for the military and my leadership in helping me get my citizenship.”

Today, you can find Corregidor working as Borrowed Military Manpower creating content for the 4th Inf. Div. Public Affairs Office. Additionally, he has earned many awards for his hard work, recently passed the promotion board and is looking forward to attending the Basic Leaders Course.
